Photoshop Elements (PSE) Easy Color Overlay Tutorial

by Susan Smith

If you’ve ever wondered how to colorize a simple shape in Photo Shop Elements (PSE), this is the tutorial for you! It’s a fairly simple process. I did this as a quick reference for someone who inquired on how to do it, so the screen-shots are not re-sized. Just click on the images to see them in full view.

1. Open the image you wish to colorize and click on it’s layer in the layers panel on the right.

2. Go to File Menu>Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color

3. In the next dialogue check the box that says “Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask”

4. Select color from color picker or add your own hex value in the box labeled #

That’s it! 🙂
