Free CU Digital Scrapbook Kit – Happy Day

To those of you who’ve been looking forward to this free digiscrap kit, it has finally made it!!! It has been a busy week, and my DSL connection is really really slow compared to most.

We decided to have dinner at a local restaurant Saturday night that has smokin’ fast DSL. What takes 5 hours at home takes 15 minutes (for uploads) here. This speed of connection is definitely painful for those into digital scrapbooking, as typically the file sizes for full size papers and elements packs are very large.  If I upload/download anything at home it brings the whole network to a crawl and people complain, lol.  Guess it’s one of the things I have to put up with living in a podunk town. If we would have been 1 house over, we wouldn’t have been able to get DSL at all! So without further a due, here’s the scrap kit! And here’s the credits.

Thanks everybuddy! The most difficult thing was finding an opportunity to upload it – hence the mention of our DSL. Kits are fat!! 🙂

Hey hun, one thing that might help the size of your zip files, don't include the FB, Twitter, and all the other icons and what not each time. I accessed all of the files from both sites, and literally there were 3-4 papers and all the other items were things that have nothing to do with the scrapkit or your site and they are repeated in each and every zip file. That is really a hardship on you and your fans that are downloading at a slow speed. It was quite irritating to find that out of each 38+ item zip file, only 4 files were actually kit related. If you are aware of this, sorry for the time, but if not, you might want to make your zip files only contain kit items, not all the "ad icons". Just a thought hon. *HUGS*

Those files aren't very big, maybe some kilobytes. When I upload layer styles and gradients, stuff that isn't fat, it only takes a couple of seconds and has the same exact folder. I can put it all in a .txt file but I don't think it will make a difference. I did have the papers all in one pack but it was 300 megs total, which most free file sharing sites won't allow.

@Sassy Yeah I just checked, the entire readme folder is not even 1 megabyte. It's 115 kilobytes, yet each paper is 16-20 megs. I could try to use the save for web feature of PS for the papers and elements but I don't know if it supports PNG. I wanted to make sure everything was really high quality

The 2 screenshots and the readme equals about 248 kilobytes which is about a quarter of a meg. 1 mb has roughly 1000 kilobytes. (ok enough of the geek speak for now, lol!)

Anyone have any suggestions on what the best compression utility would be for the papers and elements. Something that would still preserve the image quality? I know a .jpg would be much smaller but most everything I've ever downloaded is in .png format, except for maybe some of the things I've gotten from

      Cheers & Hugs, Sü

Oh one other thing I was going to say. I put the papers and elements in their own folder just to make sure no file corruption happened. I've read that this can happen with zips that are not embedded with other folders so figured I'd better be safe than sorry.

I converted all the papers to jpeg files to save space on my hard drive. You could certainly do that to create faster uploads. Papers can be flattened after you are done working your magic!!!!
Thank you for sharing your talent!

    16. starsunflowerstudio July 26, 2011 5:58 am

@JLS You know, I realized that in most of the kits I've downloaded and also on the digiscrap sites that the papers are in JPG format. Thanks so much for the tip! It will definitely save a lot of space!!!

We have had DSL for several years; we are at the very edge of the signal and were promised expansion. Now they just say we have to get Uverse. Our speed is 1/4 of what was promised. Stubborn hubby still won't change…..

Oh, thanks for the lovely CU kit
